Puzzles To Remember

PUZZLES TO REMEMBER is a 501(c)3 organization that provides puzzles to nursing homes, veterans facilities, and other facilities that care for Alzheimer's and dementia patients. Puzzles To Remember was founded in 2008 by Max Wallack, who recognized the calming effect of puzzles and many other benefits on people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Max graduated from Boston University, Summa Cum Laude, in 2015, and is now a student at Harvard Medical School.

Since 2011, Puzzles To Remember’s Associate Director, Hailey Richman, now age 12, has been helping distribute puzzles to nursing facilities around the globe. Hailey also spends time doing the puzzles with nursing home residents. She always brightens their days.  Hailey is also the founder of KidCaregivers.com, where she provides advice for children dealing with dementia in their family members. Hailey has begun a program called PuzzleTime which involves volunteer students going to nursing facilities and doing puzzles with their residents. Max serves as Advisor to the KidCaregivers program.

If you have puzzles that you would like to donate, please contact us at PuzzlesToRemember@gmail.com and we will find a location near you where you can bring your puzzles. We can also provide you with a donation letter so that you can claim the value of your puzzles as a tax deduction.

PuzzlesToRemember

PuzzleTime is a program begun by PuzzlesToRemember and KidCaregivers.  In addition to supplying a dementia facility with donated Springbok PuzzlesToRemember, teens are paired up with each facility.  Usually monthly or bimonthly, these teens visit dementia facilities, bringing these puzzles with them.  They spend a few hours at the facility, interacting with the residents and helping them do the puzzles. The students receive community service credits for their efforts.

Both the students and the residents find the experience to be very rewarding, and both groups always look forward to the next session.  Below is a photo of a group of students showing up for PuzzleTime at Azalea Gardens, a dementia care facility in Tallahassee Florida.

The PuzzleTime Program is now in the following states:  Oregon, Florida, Massachusetts, Kentucky, Alabama, South Dakota, Texas, Montana, California, Maryland, New York, Colorado, Kansas, and New Jersey.

There are also chapters in Trinidad, South Africa, Jamaica, China, Brazil, Canada, and Russia.

If you know of any students that would like to participate or begin new chapters of this program, please either contact me at PuzzlesToRemember@gmail.com  or Hailey Richman at kidcaregivers@gmail.com.
